Weekend Trip to Seattle, Washington

4 Days in Seattle

My birthday month is here and I'm celebrating it in Seattle with my husband and friends. It's an exciting trip for me as I've never been to Washington.

Seattle, Washington is located on the West Coast of the United States. I heard from my friend that it rains a lot in their state but she likes it. I'm curious to see the other side of the US, the colder area if I may say. We packed our rain gears as we're going on a rainy month. Let's go!

We have been planning on moving to another state and Washington state was definitely on our list. This trip is not just about my birthday celebration but also finding out if Seattle is the right state for us.

January 3 -6 Seattle, Washington

Flight from California to Seattle
Check out: Honey Wine Tour and Moroccan Dinner

Departing Flight
Fri, Jan 3 Alaska Airlines
8:00 am Burbank, CA - 10:49 am Seattle, WA (SEA-Seattle - Tacoma Intl.)
Flight Duration: 2h 49m flight

Some airport fridge magnet humors to start the day. I love the bottom left side on top of the first magnet that says "Step away from the fridge" - that's just hilarious!

I like this one too! The day started really great with lots of laughter and a good impression of Seattle.

The airport was clean and informative. We planned to take all modes of transportation in Seattle to compare the difference with Los Angeles. We walked to the train station as it was very close to the airport.

Orca card

There is a kiosk inside the train station where you can buy train tickets to certain parts of the city. We bought the Orca card as it allows us to take the trains and buses around the city and it saves us money for our 4 days trip. One Orca Card is 5 USD with zero deposit. The same ticket kiosk dispenses Orca cards and load money for transportation usage that accepts cash or credit card. It was fast and easy. Little did we know that you have to tap the Orca card on those card readers located near the entrance, which we passed by of course after purchasing our Orca card. It's that yellow post with found on the left side of the image above. So when we got on the train and the ticket officer checked our card there was no transaction history on it, he was cool about it but he still had to take our passport information and labeled as an ignorant tourist on the database. Another thing we found out on that day was 3 days closure of some of the train stations due to maintenance - like seriously what more could possibly go wrong?!.

Reminders: After purchasing your Orca card make sure to tap your card on the card readers before hopping on the train, and tap out again before leaving the train station.

The hotel was closed to the famous Space Needle and a lot of restaurants around the area.

This is my first honey wine if my memory serves me right. It was something different from our usual red and white wines. There are varieties of sweetness depending on its storage time. What I love about honey wine is having the same amount of alcohol alongside most wines. The owner himself introduces us to his collections and a brief explanation of its taste.

Morrocan Cuisine Dinner

I wanted to do something unique for our first dinner in Seattle so we're having a 5-course Moroccan dinner.

We purchased our Moroccan Restaurant Dinner with Groupon.

The Morrocan ambiance of the restaurant was spectacular, from the ceiling to the chairs and even the Belly Dancer circling around each table as we dine in. I wasn't impressed with the dishes but I like the dessert without the cinnamon sprinkles.

Saturday, January 4
Check out: Pike Place Market, Seattle Waterfront and Seattle Center Space Needle

Space Needle

Here it is the famous Space Needle Tower of Washington. This was very close to our hotel. A must-see as it is considered an iconic observatory tower of Seattle.

We didn't plan on climbing the tower if you are the entrance fee is around 30 USD - 35 USD, which includes a same day visit to the Chihuly Garden and Glass. There's an expensive restaurant if you want to grab a bite it's called SkyCity located inside the tower. This reminds of the CN Tower in Toronto where I had the best steak on Christmas Eve with my hubby and my family via Whatsapp video.

Pike Place Market and Seattle Waterfront

Afterward, we went to the Pike Place Market which was very close to Seattle Waterfront where we get to see the famous Ferris wheel.

Beer Tour

We've already done the wine tour from the other day so why not complete the drinking session with a beer tasting. I enjoyed this beer hub the place was cool and relaxing, plus the beers were awesome. My favorite drink is the pineapple flavored beer, it goes along with our complimentary bread and unlimited popcorn refill - now you know why this place was impressive!

Szechuan Cuisine Dinner

My husband has never been a fan of spicy foods but he's willing to explore his taste buds. He said yes to try a new cuisine so we went to a Szechuan restaurant in downtown Seattle. This Chinese restaurant is popular for its spicy noddles and soups. I was excited for both of us and a little bit worried about my brave one. We asked the lady to make our orders not too spicy and guess what it turned out I'm not that strong enough for this challenge too - ahahaa

Sunday, January 5
Bremerton, Washington

Bremerton can be reached by a one-hour ferry ride from downtown Seattle. A perfect one-day getaway from the bustling city. A college friend of mine has settled down in this small town and so we decided to visit her and celebrate my birthday with her family.

Seattle's Coffee

I always start my day with a cup of sunshine and I'm in luck as I'm at the best US state to try some well-brewed coffee. Seattle is most famous for its coffee. They're considered to have the most number of coffee shops in the whole country and the world center for coffee roasting.

Taco Del Mar

Taco Del Mar is a coastal-style Mexican food chain based in Seattle, Washington. I love the freshness and the selections they offer for customers. A healthier option for your traditional Mexican food favorites.

Seattle to Bremerton Ferry Tickets is less than 10 USD with travel time from 50 minutes to an hour.

The ferry provides jigsaw puzzles placed on top of the tables.

Putting the jigsaw pieces together definitely entertained us and the hour-long journey felt shorter.

Even when we got to my friend's place they also have their own jigsaw puzzle.

I didn't do anything extreme for my birthday this year but I'm happy. Celebrating it with special people fills my heart with so much joy. I feel blessed.

We went back to our hotel, dip in the jacuzzi one more time, and left our mark, Saul and Tre adventure doodle.

Monday, January 6
Flight from Seattle to California

The trip was not how we expected it to be from the Train station closures, got in trouble with our Orca card, and from not being able to go to Mt. Rainier. Due to the transportation issues, we skipped going to Discovery Park Loop Trail or the Washington Park Arboretum.  We decided maybe Seattle is not for us, a few signs from above telling us to go back to California for now till we find our place.

Have fun and be safe ^__^

Itinerary Reminders:

1. Flight Details
Make sure to write down your booking reference number, be at the airport two hours before your flight, and allocate time for your travel to the airport.

2. Accommodation Details
Write down your hotel/motel/resort/BnB booking number. Contact your place to inform them around when you'll be arriving — it really does help.  Also, ask if your accommodation has any discounted activities.  You'd be surprised!

3a. Transportation
List possible times your bus/train/boat arrives and leaves so you don't miss an activity.  Always give yourself an extra 30-45 minutes in case you get lost, get stuck in traffic, or are looking for parking.  Better early than late.  Of utmost importance: check for the last trip and fares!  So you still have time and money to get back.

3b. Car Rentals
Take note of your pick-up address and time allotted.  Our last car rental told us to bring the car back by a certain time with a certain amount of gas.  Allot money for fuel and parking.

4. Budgeting
Set aside a minimum and maximum spending amount for meals, transportation, entrance fees, activities, souvenirs, and emergencies.  3 meals a day + snacks add up quickly, so keep track!  As well as tips for restaurants and activities.

5. Activities
Call to confirm your booking(s) a day or so beforehand.  Set alarms and/or calendar reminders for things you plan to do (i.e- bungee-jumping, river-rafting, or even city/food tours).

Do you want more adventure?
Check out Europe for 2 weeks: Art Class in Paris, France then getting on a Hot air balloon ride at Siena, Italy, and relaxing by the beach at Amalfi, Coast with a side trip to Rome, Italy before flying back home.

Where am I going next?
The hiking trails in Los Angles has re-opened! We're going to do a short hike at Corriganville Park in Simi Valley, California.
