Roaming Rome for a Day

Our Europe trip has finally come to an end but there's more! Our luck has reached its maximum level and with its last draw gave us one more day to explore Rome in Central Italy. After exploring the streets of Paris getting responsibly drunk in Siena and checking out the enchanting Amalfi Coastit was time to slow down and walk around the capital city of Italy. Let’s go!

Hotel La Scaletta's Surprised Gift

We decided to spend our last days in Europe in the capital city of Italy as our flight back to California will be in Rome, and considering the traffic and possible setbacks coming from Amalfi Coast going to the airport made us all worried. My husband and I decided to stay away from downtown Rome to get away from the crowd and get closer to the airport.

Hotel La Scaletta made our stay more memorable!

The hotel is less than 30 minutes away from the airport which makes it a perfect place to stay for a night. I've been booking all our hotels in the past with comments about a bottle of wine or champagne and a rose for fun, and simply wishing someday one will find it in their hearts to accommodate my request. To my surprise, Hotel La Scaletta said yes to our request. It made our last days in Europe even more special.

The image on top shows the train ticket system in Rome. We planned just to visit the Colosseum so the 100-minute ticket was good enough for our trip and then back to the hotel.

The Colosseum

What to do: Stopover in Rome, Italy

Here we are with all smiles when we reached the world's famous historical landmark of Italy. When you exit from the train station the Colosseum is right before your very eyes, you don't need to go that far. Just step out of the station and behold your eyes.

Plenty of souvenir shops near the train station make it very easy to buy spartan keychains for my brothers. Never in my wildest imagination that I think I'll be given a chance to see the Colosseum. I saw this in my textbooks when I was young and that was all of it. Well, here I am now travelling with the most amazing person on earth and feeling blessed on all levels.

Interesting Finds in Rome

Some interesting things I saw while roaming around Rome. I found a gasoline station just along the road, ain't that convenient eh?!

I feel like a car crossing the pedestrian lane here as there are three-color signs for pedestrians just like a normal traffic light for cars.

Try Aperitivo at Lido di Ostia

What to do: Stopover in Rome, Italy

We learned that there is this pre-dinner drink in Italy to open up one's palate before a sumptuous dinner. They call it "Aperitivo" a simple way of socializing while snacking on something with family and friends. A good excuse to have a nice glass of alcoholic drinks with some traditional Italian treats while waiting for dinner.

Explore Ostia Beach

What to do: Stopover in Rome, Italy
We walked from Lido de Ostia back to the hotel but before that, we went to see the sunset at the beach. This was just across the street from our hotel.

Someone was singing Disney songs at the beach which made the experience even better. My husband and I crazily sang with the beat as we watched the sun fade away.

Everything we did on this day was all nearby. From the hotel to the train station check out the Colosseum. The train station is a walking distance from the hotel to the plaza and the beach too. We were energized; even better, there were plenty of restaurants around the area.
