Sometimes after our travels, we may feel a bit unwell. To boost our recovery, we focus on natural remedies, including plenty of sleep and a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. One of our go-to drinks is Salabat, also known as ginger tea. This traditional Filipino beverage is crafted from fresh ginger root and is known for its soothing qualities, often used to ease sore throats and enhance digestion. My husband’s mother has passed down her recipe to him, and this is how we have been preparing it for ourselves and our children. Here's an easy recipe for Salabat that will help you feel better after your travels. Let’s go!

How to Make Ginger Tea With a Twist of Lemon and Honey Recipe
Tools:

Ingredients:
- 1 small- medium piece of fresh ginger root, peeled, sliced, and pounded
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 1 liter of water
- Honey, to taste
1. Boil Water
- Fill a pot with 1 liter of water and bring it to a boil over medium heat, approximately 10 minutes.
2. Add Ginger
- Once the water is boiling, add the sliced and pounded ginger. Allow it to boil for about 5 minutes.
- For kids: We used a small ginger; my 5-year-old says, “It’s just right”.
3. Add Lemon Juice
- After 5 minutes, lower the heat to a simmer and add the freshly squeezed lemon juice. Let the mixture simmer for an additional 2 minutes.
4. Sweeten
- Turn off the heat. Add honey to the mixture, stirring well until it dissolves and reaches your desired sweetness.
5. Serve
- Pour the tea into cups and enjoy it warm.
- For kids: If it feels too spicy, add a little bit more water till they like it.
