How to get there: Metro Sports Wall Climbing Cebu, Philippines

Unleash The Spiderman Within You

I've always wanted to experience rock climbing, to go outdoors and enjoy nature. I think it would be best to try wall climbing first before going to the extreme. I had some time off from school and I met with a close of friend, we had the same thing on mind all this time last semester, so we gave it a shot . We were planning to join mountaineering back then but due to our course it was hard for us to join the club schedules. That's why we thought of something to divert our frustrations of not being able to be part of the club by engaging in different kinds of activities instead, and wall climbing was on top of our list. Let's go!

Metro Sports
Address: Salinas Drive, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City near Waterfront Cebu City Hotel
Wall climbing fee: 130-150 PHP for four hours climb
Rates changes without prior notice, better call them for updated rates

For beginners, don't be afraid as they have wall where you can practice your spacing and grip to prepare you for your climb. It looks like my partner here is able to find her balance just right. Just look at how she easily climbs the wall, it seems like she's just riding a horse.

My First time Wall Climbing

While my pal is having a worry free climb, I was struggling and I've never felt so heavy. My muscles were tearing apart and I can feel the heat burning inside me. I'm really not a very athletic person so I find it very challenging wherein my endurance is put to the test.

I wanted to scream so I can skip this face of the wall, but that wont do me any good. Funny thing, I think I even prayed. This is where you have to put everything aside and focus on the task. The crew that was holding my rope was very nice, he was encouraging me to push further, maybe he was even pulling the rope  harder than me so I can pass that obstacle. Now that I've thought about it I can help but wonder, still I know I also contributed a lot, the effort I exerted was enormous.

My concentration paid off and everything went smoothly when I was able to reach the edge. The feeling was extraordinary! and plus the feeling was doubled when the crew said only professional do that wall because it was extremely hard. Four walls to choose fromand each wall gets tougher for different levels of wall climbers.

Hard work really does pay off, the achievement felt like sugar rush and I can't help but feel empowered, yet I feel so tired. It was worth every drop of sweat and teeth grinding, to be able to reach the top felt great.

The second time..

I went to Metro Sports with another friend of mine the second time around. The feeling of reaching the top was still there and I can't help but remember my first experience. This time you have to bring your own shoes, I believe it's for hygienic measures which is a good thing to avoid acquiring foot allergies. My friend tried doing it on barefoot and it was alright, you can feel everything you've step on. This is not advisable for sweaty feet.

Even thou we were not club members, we were still welcome to check out their facilities. We were excited and nervous at the same time, they have great facilities, we passed by the boxing gym and I felt this adrenaline to write  that down on my checklist next time, for now wall climbing first.

Wall Climbing is great way to test out your courage and determination. Try to check out Metro Sports for a different kind of escape from the real world.

Have fun and be safe ^__^

Itinerary Reminders:

1. Flight Details
Make sure to write down your booking reference number, be at the airport two hours before your flight and allocate time for your travel to the airport.

2. Accommodation Details
Write down your hotel/motel/resort/bnb booking number. Contact your place to inform them around when you'll be arriving — it really does help.  Also, ask if your accommodation has any discounted activities.  You'd be surprised!

3a. Transportation
List possible times your bus/train/boat arrives and leaves so you don't miss an activity.  Always give yourself an extra 30-45 minutes in case you get lost, get stuck in traffic, or are looking for parking.  Better early than late.  Of utmost importance: check for the last trip and fares!  So you still have time and money to get back.

3b. Car Rentals
Take note of your pick-up address and time allotted.  Our last car rental told us to bring the car back by a certain time with a certain amount of gas.  Allot money for fuel and parking.

4. Budgeting
Set aside a minimum and maximum spending amount for: meals, transportation, entrance fees, activities, souvenirs and emergencies.  3 meals a day + snacks adds up quickly, so keep track!  As well as tips for restaurants and activities.

5. Activities
Call to confirm your booking(s) a day or so beforehand.  Set alarms and/or calendar reminders for things you plan to do (i.e- bungee-jumping, river-rafting, or even city / food tours).

Do you want more adventure?
If you still have one more day to spare check out other more Tourist spots in Cebu.

Where am I going next?
My next adventure is to check out a UNESCO World Heritage, The Chocolate Hills of Bohol.
