Hidden Gem
El Matador Beach is part of the Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach. It's a small but beautiful area with big cliffs, rocky spots, and clean sandy beaches. Unlike the crowded beaches in Malibu, El Matador offers a quieter setting and is ideal for a calm day by the ocean; it truly resembles a scene straight out of a postcard.
To reach the beach, you go down a steep staircase, where you'll see amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. The staircase is steep and can be tough, but it's worth it. It's a good idea to wear comfy shoes and pack light. The big rocks and sea caves are great for taking photos and exploring. You can look at tide pools, walk along the shore, or just sit and enjoy the sun.
Film and Photography
To engage in film and commercial photography, you must obtain a permit. The application for this permit can be found on the LA County Beaches website.
El Matador is also a great spot for a romantic getaway. With its lovely views and peaceful vibe, it's perfect for a sunset picnic or a quiet evening walk by the water.
Beach Therapy
The beach is truly a wonderful spot for healing, reflection, and allowing your mind to roam free. I’ve always felt a deep connection to the ocean; perhaps I was a mermaid in a past life, ahahaa! The gentle breeze and the sand between my toes are what make life truly meaningful. If everyone could take some time to visit the beach, I believe the world would experience fewer mental health issues, as they would have the space to think and feel their emotions. While I'm not a therapist, I find that walking along the beach helps me immensely, and I hope to share this beach therapy with others as well.
Whether you live nearby or are just visiting, El Matador Beach is a place you should see. Its natural beauty and calm atmosphere make it special among Southern California's beaches. So, next time you're in Malibu, take a side trip to El Matador Beach. You won't regret it!
Another nearby attraction is Point Dume State Beach, which happens to be my favorite hiking destination. I've visited it countless times, and it's just a quick 10-minute drive away. If you have some time, I highly recommend checking it out for a few hours of hiking. You'll be treated to stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, and you might even catch a glimpse of a whale!
Have fun and be safe ^__^
