- Within walking distance of two major shopping malls
- Experience traditional Japanese-style rooms with Tatami mat flooring
- Bonus: Washer-dryer combo inside the room
I absolutely love the traditional Japanese-style rooms at Seiki Kyoto Hotel. The use of tatami mat flooring in the bedrooms enhances the authentic Japanese experience even more. The elevator is small, fitting only two people with two bags, or one person with a stroller. It's great for budget travelers. The rooms are a bit dusty and not very well-maintained, but they look nice. I was pregnant and slept comfortably.
It brought back fond memories of our stay at a “Minshuku” during our trip to Kawaguchiko. A minshuku is a charming, family-run Japanese-style bed and breakfast. It was my first encounter with the traditional tatami rooms featuring futon bedding, and it was genuinely an incredible experience—especially with a stunning view of Mt. Fuji right outside our window! Read more: Explore Mount Fuji and charming Kawaguchiko town in Japan.
Did you know?
When I think about it, tatami mats are like the equivalent of “banig” mats in the Philippines. Both are handwoven, just with different materials. A tatami mat stays in place, while a “banig” can be rolled up and tucked away after sleeping, as it is more lightweight compared to tatami mats.

We had quite a funny moment when we discovered that the washing machine in our room was actually a washer-dryer combo! Confused by all the Japanese characters, we were completely taken aback. Deep down, I always believed such machines existed; I mean, I thought about it, someone must have thought of it too! And there it was, the future. Japan, as always, is a step ahead of the world! Fortunately, there was a laundromat just a short walk from our hotel, so we decided to do our laundry there.
