The Easiest Hike to the Hollywood Sign, California

The Easiest Hike to the Hollywood Sign California

Day Hike in Los Angeles

I remember as a kid seeing the iconic Hollywood sign in movies. I've always wondered how it would be to see it in person.  No more just wondering as we are hiking to the oh-so-famous Hollywood Sign of Los Angeles, California this time.  Let's go!

How to get there:

Location: 2840 W Observatory Rd, Los Angeles, CA 90027
Parking: Griffith Observatory 3 USD for every hour

There are two routes: Charlie Turner Trail or Brush Canyon Trailhead

Easy Route: Charlie Turner Trail or Mount Hollywood Trail to see the Hollywood Sign
Starting and Endpoint: Griffith Observatory
Distance: 3 miles (4.83 km, back and forth)
Elevation: 800 feet
Duration: 2-3 hours (back and forth)

Hiking the Charlie Turner Trail at Griffith Observatory

The Charlie Turner Trail at Griffith Observatory is a great hiking spot on a beautiful sunny day. The trail is well-paved and easy to follow, beginning near the parking area with a clear sign to prevent getting lost. Keep in mind that the area can get crowded, especially with people visiting the museum and observatory, so try to get there early.

The trail is perfect for novice hikers, as it is clean and easy to navigate. However, be aware that there are few trees to provide shade along the way, and it is very open, making the sun's heat unbearable during summer days. Don't forget to bring a water bottle, apply sunscreen, and pack some snacks.

The Hollywood sign on top of Mount Lee

During our hike on Charlie Turner Trail, we had the pleasure of catching a glimpse of the Hollywood sign atop Mount Lee. Although my camera couldn't capture the exact image, the iconic landmark was an impressive sight to behold in person.

Captain's Roost

As we continued walking, we eventually arrived at Captain's Roost, where we were treated to a spectacular view of the San Gabriel Mountains and Glendale. We paused here to take a water break and marvel at the beauty of the city.

Dante's View

The next destination on your list is Dante's View, where you'll find a few benches to rest and take in the scenery. If you're looking for a more secluded spot, it's only a short hike away.

Snack Time

If you're looking for a peaceful hideaway where you can snack and enjoy the breathtaking scenery, head to Dante's Peak. This pit stop is just out of sight behind the trees and bushes. We indulged in some delicious sandwiches, eggs, and fruit before making our way back down to the Griffith Observatory.

Easiest Hike to the Hollywood Sign

This was one easy hike.  I saw a few couples who brought along their kids.  Just make sure to bring some water and hike early to avoid the crowd.

My partner and I have been enjoying California outdoors for months now.  There's so much to see out here in Los Angeles and the weather is just right.  We've been thinking of moving to another state, but maybe we'll stay in California as it's near the beach.

If you want to get closer to the Hollywood Sign take the Brush Canyon Trailhead.

Need some nom noms?

Have fun and be safe ^__^

Do you want more adventure?
If you still have one more day to spare why not go to Eaton Canyon Falls and hike with Mother Nature, California.

Where am I going next?
